The second half of Exodus records Israel’s meeting with God at Mt. Sinai. They make a covenant with him, receive rules by which to live, and build a tabernacle where God will dwell with them. But things go terribly wrong.

Today, our reading comes from Exodus 22-24 as God promises victory and confirms His covenant with His people. This reading reiterates God’s commitment to His people and shows that He goes before us.

I kept thinking: How scary was it for Moses to enter the cloud? God appeared like a consuming fire… I can’t imagine how intense that would have been! But, still, even after all of this the Israelites couldn’t overcome their sin nature and would consistently forget God’s covenant and power.
