I am struck by the phrase in 2 Kings 8:19 that we have heard before: “Nevertheless, for the sake of his servant David, the LORD was not willing to destroy Judah. He has promised to maintain a lamp for David and his descendants forever.” What we are reading isn’t just about the history of Israel, we are reading about the sinfulness of man and the faithfulness of God through thousands of years!
